Eczema

Eczema (atopic dermatitis)

A cheese toastie and a glass of milk before bed could seem like a harmless enough snack, but it could in fact be your worst enemy if you suffer from eczema.

There is a direct correlation between eczema sufferers and allergic responses.
Dust mites, pollen and reactions to household cleaners seem to be common in people with eczema and although low grade food intolerance seems to be a major causative factor, it is commonly overlooked.

Wheat and dairy products seem to be the most common offenders, however it can vary according to the individual.

So, other than slapping on copious amounts of cortisone cream, what can be done to keep this frustrating and irritating skin condition at bay?

1) Identify and eliminate food allergens.
This can be most effectively done by doing an elimination diet for 3 weeks or with a blood test that is sent to the U.S.A.

2) Balance the digestive flora by increasing raw vegetables, fibre and acidophilus supplementation.

3) Increase omega 3 oils in the diet (flax oil/ fish oil) Great for the skin and inflammation.

4) Get zinc levels checked. Zinc levels tend to be low and it is essential for healthy skin.

4) Calendula & St. Johns Wort creams are fantastic wound healers. Chickweed and anti-allergenic herbs can be useful as topical treatments to soothe itchy skin.

5) Remove any irritating substances such as household cleaning products, laundry powder, soaps and shampoos. Use Eco store products instead.

6) Reduce stress levels. Treat it.
